Thank you for Praying! Pictures from the harvest field!

Maverick Stampede is over and we have officially started our Thursday Night Fellowships and our Core Groups for the 2024-2025 school year. Already the students at both TNF and in Core have been evidence of God's goodness and faithfulness. I wanted to thank you for praying and share with you exciting pictures and testimonies from our students on the week and their experience in Core.

Lawn games at Brazos Park was our first event of Maverick Stampede. There was easily 100 students there playing 9 square and volleyball and frisbee and football and plastic axe throwing. It was  great way to start off the week. Our core leaders did a great job meeting new students and inviting them further into community!

There were 150 students at our first Thursday Night Fellowship. Our largest turnout in all 10 years here at UTA. The sermon was on the topic of being completely devoted to Jesus and a lot of students responded. Afterwards our church paid for all the students to go to an arcade together for free. Students really bonded and made further connections!

And now for the coolest part, look at all the students that came to check out core! PRAISE GOD!!!

Here is what some of the student leaders shared about their cores after they had their first one.

"Epic first core !!! I want to shout Precious out for being bold and facilitating our conversations well. Good luck to everyone this week and remember to be faithful with what you’re given!!"

"Mine and Colton's was amazing! We were encouraged by their enthusiasm and can't wait to see more!"

"I’m beyond grateful for my core. Also at the end we all laughed for like 5 minutes straight"

"Me and Juan’s core was amazing, everybody was engaged and I’m thankful for it. I couldn’t help but smile because of Gods presence in our core"

"Praise God! Had a truly amazing Holy Spirit led CORE with my brother Austen tonight."

I couldn't be more proud of our corefas who spent their whole week meeting their peers just to have the opportunity to share Jesus with them.

I hear reports pretty regularly that young people are leaving their faith. But this is the largest TNF and the largest core groups we have ever had. And it makes me pause and wonder. Where are all these reports coming from? Who gave these kids a chance? Was there anyone there to meet them with friendship and help when they came asking questions about God?

I am so grateful to God that here at UTA and all across DFW there is. Not only are these young people not leaving their faith, they're inspiring their peers to join them.

Thank you thank you thank you for investing in college ministry. Your gifts are making such a huge impact. God is on the move in Gen Z and I am confident that he will work in this generation to bring so many to a knowledge of his goodness and the eternal life we have in his name.

Please keep your prayers coming. This year we are praying that our students would be completely devoted to Jesus, that they would experience real friendships, and that they would raise up leaders for the church and the world. We would love for you to join us in these prayers.

Disciple Means Student

Two of the things that I have been most grateful for in the last month is the fact that God gifts us with so much fun in this life, and secondly, how God blesses us by giving us the ability to learn. At our online TNF's we have been hosting after events for our students where we try to do something that helps everyone feel connected. At one of our most recent after events we decided to host "show and tell" where everyone finds one or two objects that they are most proud of owning or they consider to be the most interesting thing they own. It was such a blast to see what the students loved and wanted to show off. In the bottom right Taylor Bass, one of our student leaders, was showing off the set of armor that he and some friends had crafted from cardboard. And 2 blocks above him Nathan Baugh, another one of our student leaders, shows off his autographed pictures of Ariana Grande that he got when he was in middle school. It was so sweet to laugh with those in attendance

More Winter Retreat and Lucy Update!

The fruit of winter retreat is evident! God really used that time to bond our guys together and point them more collectively towards following Jesus. Since winter retreat we have been able to identify several guys that we are excited to invite to be leaders next year in the ministry from Austen, to Josh, to Manny, to Chris (who's testimony is below) God is raising up young men who are eager to not only know Him but to share him with their peers. I couldn't be more grateful for you who helps to make that kind of heart transformation possible! One of our core groups, led by Ian and Crew has been in a particularly healthy place. These guys look forward to spending time together, reading God's word, praying for one another, and sharing their lives. Here they are hanging out an arcade together recently. But every week they are learning about Jesus together and growing as disciples! Speaking of Growing, Lucy is getting bigger. This photo above was from her first wedding recentl

Learning From the Wise

Dear Friends, Thank you for taking the time to read this ministry update. This winter season has been particularly encouraging and I am excited to tell you about what is coming up soon! The month of December began with a celebration. The school semester was coming to a close quickly so we threw our annual Focus Christmas party in the first week of the month. Talk about Christmas come early. The event was filled with sweet memories, worship, and funny skits put on by the various weekly core groups. Watching those skits is always a highlight of the year as everyone in the core often participates and everyone gets to see each others silly sides. A couple of guys at the UTA Focus Christmas Party. In the bottom picture, one of the roommates couldn't make the event so the rest of the guys thoughtfully chose to find a way to include him in the picture, no matter what.  Once the semester was over and the students went home for the holidays, I had a lot of time to read.
