End of an Era (Tons of Pictures)

 The school year will officially be over in just a few weeks and with that comes the end of an era. Our leader team will be different next year, and several of our seniors are graduating but God has always been faithful to us and he always will be.

Pictured above is our UTA Leader Team. I am so proud of each of them. After 2 years of a pandemic these students volunteered this year to befriend their peers and commit to making Jesus known on the college campus and I have loved getting to work alongside them. Every week these students led small group bible discussions with the people in their core, and studied the bible one on one with those same people, and met with campus pastors weekly to receive coaching, feedback, and encouragement. It is a large commitment to be a corefa. But God is so good to bring us these students who are not only willing, but who are excited to get to have the opportunity. So much of what God is able to do in our community is through these students who have stepped up, decided to lead, and who live like Jesus to their classmates and peers every single week.

Several of our students are graduating this year. Pictured above is our graduating seniors being sent off with a benediction to go and be a light for Jesus in their future workplaces. Some of these men I have gotten to know for the last 4-5 years and I know from the bottom of my heart that God has done a work in each one of them and that he will continue to bless them and use them to continue bringing his kingdom wherever these young men and women go. Nathan Baugh in the green shirt is getting married this summer to Parker the girl in the gray shirt and I have the privilege to officiate their wedding. I'm so honored to be asked to play that role in their lives. I couldn't be more excited to officiate the marriage of two young people who love God with their whole hearts. Pictured here we have students going into teaching, engineering, criminal justice, journalism, business and ministry. What a joy and a gift it is to get to be a part of their lives for as long as I have. Thank you for the opportunity.

A few weeks ago we had an event called Breakfast with the Boys. Young men from Focus, and a few men from the church I attend got together for breakfast and just hung out in a beautiful home for a few hours. I'm so thankful to be a part of a church body that has a vision for college students and wants to provide an avenue for them to be connected to older men and women and a church home where they can lead and serve upon graduating.

This is our end of year celebration. Pictured is 80 students worshiping Jesus right in the heart of campus.  This room is the welcome center where every student considering coming to UTA will be given a presentation about why UTA should be their pick. Little do they know that waiting on the campus for them is a community like this who loves Jesus and wants to make them known.

And lastly, earlier I wrote about Nathan Baugh. I wasn't able to be present during the pictures taken of our leader team. But Nathan, loving me, decided to photoshop me in.     Love that last pic haha!!! No pressure, but it's definitely symbolic of the role you play in that community. Thanks for sharing your heart for these sweet students and pointing them toward Jesus.

More Winter Retreat and Lucy Update!

  The fruit of winter retreat is evident! God really used that time to bond our guys together and point them more collectively towards following Jesus. Since winter retreat we have been able to identify several guys that we are excited to invite to be leaders next year in the ministry from Austen, to Josh, to Manny, to Chris (who's testimony is below) God is raising up young men who are eager to not only know Him but to share him with their peers. Learning From the Wise

Dear Friends, Thank you for taking the time to read this ministry update. This winter season has been particularly encouraging and I am excited to tell you about what is coming up soon! The month of December began with a celebration. The school semester was coming to a close quickly so we threw our annual Focus Christmas party in the first week of the month. Talk about Christmas come early. The event was filled with sweet memories, worship, and funny skits put on by the various weekly core groups. Watching those skits is always a highlight of the year as everyone in the core often participates and everyone gets to see each others silly sides. A couple of guys at the UTA Focus Christmas Party. In the bottom picture, one of the roommates couldn't make the event so the rest of the guys thoughtfully chose to find a way to include him in the picture, no matter what.  Once the semester was over and the students went home for the holidays, I had a lot of time to read. The Master Plan Of Evangelism

 In 1963 Robert Coleman published a book called The Master Plan of Evangelism. This book has, through the years, been to me one of the greatest encouragements as to why college ministry matters. In the book Coleman argues that the way that Jesus did evangelism was to call men simply to be with him, that they might observe his life, learn from him, and be sent out to be with others, that others might observe their lives and learn from them the things that Jesus had instructed. When I think about raising up leaders for college ministry I get so excited about this model. A campus missionary, who has walked with Jesus for a long while, inviting young, moldable, excited students to come and be with us a while, that we might continue to both model the love of Jesus, and instruct them in the ways to live according to Jesus.
